Suggestions for experimental procedure: Physics

My son would like to do his science project related to Football Punting: Distance vs. Hang time. What would be the best way to go about this and suggestions on how to track the kicks. Distance is obvious. Would we need to time them and combine the hangtime and distance to come up with some sort of analysis? Just looking for some direction.

Hello,

This sounds like a fun project! This particular topic (https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... -hang-time) is a Science Fair Project Idea and therefore does not include a full procedure like some of the other Project Guides on this site.

I think you are on the right track with your experiment design. Forming a hypothesis about the relationship between hang time and distance of a punt and then completing a bunch of tests to collect data. If you measure the distance and the hang time of each kick and plot them versus each other what type of relationship do you see? Does it confirm or refute your hypothesis?

Hope this helps!

Audrey
