Hello,
The glow-in-the-dark water is a great project for kids! It teaches them how mixing different chemicals can affect the end result by first emitting blue light and then emitting nothing when bleach is added. For older kids, they can learn how tonic water contains quinine, a chemical that absorbs UV light and emits blue light, and how bleach is an oxidizing agent that breaks up the chemical bonds that absorb UV light. The activity page (https://www.sciencebuddies.org/stem-act ... ater-glows) describes how this process works and provides ideas for further exploration. Have fun with this project!
