How do I determine the variables in my science project? I'm doing it on the telegraph. My purpose is: Is the telegraph as good as a phone?
I'm in second grade, and I've asked my mom and she doesn't know either. We have checked on the web also but haven't figured it out yet. Thank you.

Belinda,
You and your mom should look at these two pages. The first one is easier, and the second one harder, but they will answer your questions.

Basically, the variables relate to what you measured in your project. How did you decide if the telephone or telegraph was "better"? What does "better" mean? How do you decide if one this is "as good" as another?
If you could also give us a link to this project, if you found it on the web, it would help. I didn't see it on the sciencebuddies site, but maybe I missed it or you found it somewhere else.
