Do cooked beans grow?

I did experiment with cooked beans. I wanted to find out if heat and cooking will increase or decrease the growth of a plant. Starting with 5 min cooking, none of my cooked beans grew, except uncooked lentils beans. But, I can't find any sources( website, books) for my bibliography to cite in my research paper, which I need to attach to my project. Please, help...Due date is 01/30/08
Thank you, Gab

Hi Gab,

Cooking breaks down the cell walls of plant cells, which will generally prevent them from being able to grow!

I found this article, which relates somewhat to your experiment:
http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/ab ... lCode=jfds

In the end, you can do a web search of topics like "effects of cooking on plant cells" and "cooking and beans" to find books and articles that will help you understand your results.

Good luck!
Heather
