HELP! Unexplained Result!

I did my project on the effect of aeration on yeast metabolism, and I have already done my experimentation. The project is similar to the science buddies one about yeast metabolism (level 8). after my experiment, I fould that the "no water alteration" group produced less carbon dioxide than both the aerobic AND the anaerobic condition. I really need a reply NOW. The science fair is on 3/8/08 and the judges are not going to be impressed if I can't answer that question..... again.

Hi Swimmer12,
Welcome to the Ask an Expert forum.
You are not the first student to report having gotten those results for that experiment. It is hard to say exactly what happened without seeing your experiment in action, but this thread has descriptions of many of the possibilities.

Most of the info relevant to your question is at the bottom of the first page or on the second page. My last post in that thread has a recent reference with some surprising results that could be a good selling-point to the judges.
The student in that case was younger, but the principles mentioned by the experts remain the same. If you have any questions about that material, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you sooooooo much! I understand it now. I did really well at the science fair and I got honroable mention. That's really good considering that most of the other people in microbiology were seniors and I;m only a freshman. Again, thanks alot!!
