Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

We are doing a research project (not experiment) on the subject of cannons and can't think of how to begin. We need a hypothesis/question so we can research from that but cannons isn't the best research subject my son could have chosen. In the history of cannons, what could we research that would make it interesting reading to others?

This might be an interesting look at the cannon's role in history and various wars. You could perhaps start off with a preliminary background of cannons (when they were developed, how they were used) and describe the evolution of the cannon into the modern-day weapons of today. I would suggest you ask your son what makes cannons so fascinating for him, and that might serve as a starting point for the research. Here are a couple of links regarding the history of the cannon:

The primary result is the wikipedia entry for "History of cannon," which is extensive and enlightening.
