Hi,
It appears you can use a variety of enzymes to soften jute cloth. Here are a few resources:
http://www.fpl.fs.fed.us/documnts/pdf1996/sreen96b.pdf
http://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/fiber/58/1/22/_pdf
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_q ... tBody;col1
http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6296671/fulltext.html
Here is a study of chemical treatment of jute:
http://www.ieindia.org/pdf/86/ext4f6a1.pdf
These were found using a search of http://www.google.com for “enzymatic treatment of jute”. There are many more references there than summarized.
Hope this helps,
Best regards,
Barrett Tomlinson

Hi,
You may also find this wikipedia article of use. It mentions dyeing jute with a marigold extract after processing with an enzyme:

Hi,
You sound like you have come to the point in your project where you need to be inventive and creative, and make your own contribution to the problem. In short, I don’t have the answer. Some places to look to start generating your own ideas on this include:
