Toxins in Potatoes Research

I am a high school student doing a science fair project that will require me to measure the amount of the glycoalkaloids in potatoes using high performance liquid chromatography. Is there any place where I could access equipment to take the measurements? Do universities or colleges usually have equipment that can do it? Or will I have to rent the equipment from someone? More specifically, are there any places in or around Los Angeles that have equipment to do this type of measurement? Thanks in advance.

Hi bobianite,
Welcome to the Ask an Expert forum. The most common way to gain access to that sort of equipment is to find a mentor at a University who is willing to work with you on your project. UCLA would be a likely location to find someone who can help, and I'm sure there are many others in and around LA.
Here is a lab at UCLA that could provide the necessary equipment

I don't personally know anyone working in that area. You could ask the laboratory, or try an internet search for "UCLA glycoalkaloids".
Good luck!
Chris
