I need to figure out how to measure the force needed to pull a nail out of wood

Hi daughejo,
An easy way to measure force is with a spring scale.

You might also need to use a lever if the force needed to pull the nail is greater than the maximum force measurable by the scale.

If you are asking about what key words to use to research the holding power of nails, try "hoding power of nails". One article that comes up is
