Hi Kate,

Welcome to science buddies! You are in the right place to learn about experimental design. First, you will need to have a topic, a question, and a hypothesis before you can design on your experiment. If you don't have a topic or hypothesis yet, then go to the science fair project ideas page on this website and find a topic. Try the topic selection wizard to help you find something you would be really interested in doing. Once you have selected a topic, then go to the science fair project guide and go through the steps, one by one. Your experiment will be designed to answer your science project question, and find out if your hypothesis is correct. Ideally, you will have one independent variable and a dependent variable that you can measure. All other conditions of the experiment will be controlled.

I hope this helps you get started. Write back if you need more help.
