Science Fair Question

My science fair question is "What is the effect of food preparation (fresh vs. frozen) on gas production?" How to I test this, how do I measure this? What gas are they referring to? ethylene? I'm in 8th grade so I think gas chromatography is out of the question. Any ideas?

I think you nailed the problem with your own question "What gas?". You need to define that answer before you can move forward. How did you decide on this project? Did someone suggest it to you? IF so, you can ask them what they meant. Have you checked the Science Buddies section on projects?
