Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Hello members of Science Buddies!

I need help finding a high level (maybe even college level) involving the lungs, respiratory system,pulomuary disease, etc.
I already am in possession of a small device that measures ones lung capacity.
My intial idea was to compare different capacities of race and athleticism.
However, I want to go beyond that!
If you have any ideas on how to make my intial project idea better, more complex, or unique. Please let me know.
Or you could give me any cool ideas that involve the respiratory system.
I have access to a lab and am willing to try anything.

Wow, you could do any number of things with your project!

I have a couple ideas for you. You could compare the lung capacities of cigarette smokers and non-smokers. To bring in the idea of athleticism, you could measure the lung capacities of competitive athletes (e.g., on a high school or college team) versus non-athletes (not on a team). For this project, you would have to document the amount of exercise your two groups performed (i.e., hours of aerobic exercise per day or per week).
