Which chemicals in chamomile tea allow it to lighten hair color? Please help. I need the answer to analyse my research project.

Hi,

I have not found a direct answer to your question, though this book may possibly contain the answer (note the comments on the chemistry of chamomile (see second paragraph from top in third column from left):

http://www.robert-temple.com/articles/H ... ut1986.pdf

Here is a book abstract commenting on chamomile oil composition and uses as a hair dye:

http://books.google.com/books?id=SSw_xx ... t#PPA58,M1

The compound alpha bisabolol, a major component of blue chamomile oil, has been patented as a stabilizer for hydrogen peroxide in hair dye formulations.

I hope this helps answer your question. Good luck on your project!

Best regards,
