Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Hello
I am a grade three teacher who has decided to do our science fair projects under the topic of being green. We are focusing on earth four elements and why it is important to keep them clean and how to clean them once they are contaminated. Also the best ways to perserve them. I did not think this would be so difficult but I am having no luck locating homemade science experiments that demonstrate how to preserve, clean or prevent contaminate water, soil, air, or fire(energy). Any ideas or do you know where I can search? The projects can not go beyond 5 days.
