I tried this experiment, but the wire oozed out brown stuff, so it was not successful. Can anyone tell me what went wrong?

Hi,

You description of your experimental failure is too brief to diagose. First less us confirm that the experiment you were trying to do is:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... p028.shtml

If you followed the directions carefully I would expect the experiment to work, so the first thing to do is to carefully review what you did vs. what the writeup said to do. If no separation of your sample occurred the first thing to look at is whether current passed through the sample. This can be detected by bubbles coming off the two wires during the separation process. If you don’t see the bubbles, you won’t get a separation.

If these ideas do not help solve the problem, please post again with a lot more details about your experiment and we will try to help you solve the problem.

Best regards,
