Good morning. My daughter is working on a Science Fair Project. Her purpose is "Will different sugar solution cooling temperatures affect the growth rate of sugar crystals when making Rock Candy?". She is having difficulty writing the "Application". Everything is completed, except for this section. Can someone please help with some ideas on how to write this?

We appreciate all your help! :D

Hello and welcome to the forum!

The usual science project write up does not have an application section, but it sounds like you need to know possible applications of crystal growth? You might try your favorite search engine, although the articles I found were often "scholarly". :D

I found this quote on the NASA web site:
crystal growth experiments aid the generation of computer models of carbohydrates, nucleic acids and proteins, and further advance the progress of biotechnology. Understanding these results will lead to advances in manufacturing and biological processes, both in medicine and agriculture.
Also, look here for some background: http://www.pnas.org/content/96/20/11069.full.
Crystal growth is extremely important for making silicon wafers (computers, all kinds of chips, and some solar cells). Here's a pdf file about how these wafers are grown: http://depts.washington.edu/chemcrs/bul ... ilicon.pdf. Also: http://www.tf.uni-kiel.de/matwis/amat/e ... 6_1_2.html.
You might want to poke around Wikipedia, too. HTH.
