For science fair this year I have to interview an expert on my topic, which is Chemistry. If an expert with at least one year of expirience in my topic could answer these questions. Thanks.

1. What is you name and title?

2. Do you think this topic is interesting, useful, or important? If so, why?

3. When did you first study/learn about chemistry?

4. What are some important things you have learned about chemistry?

5. How can knowledge of this topic be applied to everyday life?

6. Why did you decide to study chemistry?

7. Can you name some things you would deal with when performing a chemistry expiriment?

8. How has chemistry helped people?

Hi,

1. What is you name and title

I am Barrett Tomlinson, a retired PhD Chemist.

2. Do you think this topic is interesting, useful, or important? If so, why?

I have been interested in chemistry ever since I learned to read. If you look around the room where you are, a chemist helped make almost everything you see or use or eat. How can you not be interested in a subject this universally useful. If you want to know more look at the website of the A,erican Chemical Society(www.acs.org).

3. When did you first study/learn about chemistry?

I was trying to read my father’s old collage chemistry tests by the fifth grade.

4. What are some important things you have learned about chemistry?

Everything is chemistry, from how plastics are made for clothing, to how to make plants grow better, to how to make medicines, to how your body works, to how to make building materials.

5. How can knowledge of this topic be applied to everyday life?

Anything which involves physical matter and its transformations is an aspect of chemistry.

6. Why did you decide to study chemistry?

I loved chemistry from age 11 or earlier.

7. Can you name some things you would deal with when performing a chemistry expiriment?

Decide the question you want to answer. Plan an experiment to answer the question. Determine what is already known about the question. Do the experiment, and record your observations.

8. How has chemistry helped people?

Most clothes today are of plastic, which chemists invented. Most food is grown using fertilizer and pesticides, which chemists invented.

Clothes and paints are dyed with dies which chemists synthesized. ALL THE METALS WE USE WERE ISOLATED and made from ores by chemists< to name a few things>

All the antibiotics and other medicines were invented by chemists>

we cannot live without chemists anymore>

I HOPE THIS ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS..

Good luck on your project!

Barrett L. Tomlinson
