I really want to do the science project on building beaches, but my instructions say I have to state a problem. What could I use for the problem in this project. I just need a little help getting started.

Thanks, Madisyn

Hi madigirl,

You could do something about the erosion of beaches. Here's an article: http://www.scientificamerican.com/artic ... ch-erosion

Lots of beaches are disappearing because the sand gets carried away by the water. Maybe you could determine the rate of erosion by measuring the amount of sand that moves to the bottom of a bucket after waves hit for a certain amount of time? You could even try to figure out ways to decrease the rate of erosion by using larger sand particles, or building something to keep the sand in place.

I'd check out the project idea you mentioned to give you an idea of how to build your beach, then you can make up your own experiment to test it.

Good luck and let us know if you have any other questions, just reply to your original topic.
