hi,
i am doing a project on whet 3-D geometric shape scatters the most light and i was wondering if you knew what a lux meter measures light in (example:inches, centimeters)

A "lux meter" measures light as it is perceived by the human eye and measures it in the units of "Lux". This is a world standard for measuring light. There are other units of measure for light. You can learn about them here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lux
You asked about inches and centimeters. The distance between the lux meter and the object emitting the light will change the amount of light sensed by the lux meter, but the measurement will still be in "Lux" units.
Be sure you study and understand how light intensity varies with distance. Here are some ScienceBuddies links that will help you with that:

Have fun with your project.
