I will not be harming the mice I will just be observing them. Do I need a permit to do this?

Hi!
You should go through this rules wizard to see what type of permission you need. Also check with your teacher just to make sure! Best of luck!!

Your school will have to have a committee in place to evaluate any projects involving vertebrates and, in this case, a mammal.. Your title says you want to see how exposure to light affects the mouse's habits. You will need to be specific as to the behavior or habit you are observing. It is important that treatment of all vertebrates is humane and so I would recommend that you do some reading about studies that may have been done that involve exposing mice to light over extended periods of time.
Good luck with your research.
Carrol.

Hello,

There is generally a set procedure that each fair has set in place for the use of vertebrate animals in research. You generally have to go through quite a bit of paperwork, along with approval from an approved committee. You can check out ISEF's document library for their vertebrate animal paperwork.

Hope this helps,
