Creating Electricity by using static shock

for my daughters science project we have to create a spark of light in an LED lamp- by rubbing her feet on a carpet - can this be done? if so, how? please help

Hi,

Here is a Science Buddies project which controls the intensity of an LED light using a static charge:

I do not know of a way to power an LED directly from a static discharge without risking destroying the LED by applying too high a voltage across the semiconductor.

It is possible to create flashes of light in a compact flourescent bulb using a static electric discharge. Here is a non Science Buddies experiment description:
