Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Ok. I have a science fair project due on Feb 28th and my project is "what is the stereostype of a gamer?". I have to create survays to pass out to people. I don't know how to make em and i don't know what kinda questions to ask. I have looked on the science buddies science fair ideas page and looked at how to make the survays and i just don't get it. I really need help, i have asked my teacher and she isn't of that much help.

The project outline includes a suggestions for making two surveys; one to hand out to people who do not play games, and one to give to people who do play games. You will need at least 50 copies of each survey.

What stereotypes were you interested in investigating? Age, gender, personality type, or something else? The project guide suggests doing multiple choice questions so you will be able to code and graph the results easily and gives an example of a question. The selection of your topic will make your project unique, so you do need to make up your own questions.

I am concerned about your deadline. You need to write you survey, have 100 people answer, and tabulate results before the end of the month. If this response does not help, then please let us know immediately what it is that you don’t understand. This is a difficult project, so you might want to consider switching to one of the easier video game projects:

Ok. That was some help. I have the survays and I kind of altered the project, I reduced the amount of people and survays I need. I am running into a problem, I don't have a printer that works but our class is going to the computer lab so I can just email the stuff to myself and print it out. Although I do have a problem with my teacher, she gave us 2 months notice to find a project, do research and experiment and all that kind of stuff, and frankly i think we should have had more time because (not to be rude or anything but) the other students aren't the sharpest knifes in the knife drawer.

I completely agree with you. I wish teachers would assign the science fair project at the beginning of the year so students would have time to think about what they will be doing and then be ready to start the experiments two month ahead of time. Selecting the project idea is usually the hardest part of the project.

However, you need to completely focus on your project so you can get it done one time. If you have your questionnaires made, and you can get them printed, I think you will have a good chance to complete your project.

It might be helpful to make a time line, so you can get everything done before your deadline. Here is information from the Science Buddies website that will help with data analysis and preparing your science board:

You should be able to go ahead and write up the title, hypothesis, background information, and material and methods section now, so they will be ready to go on your board. Your biggest challenge will be to get enough completed questionnaires so you can allow at least a week for data analysis before the project is due.
