I suspect much of dog likes and dislikes are inherited genetic leftovers that evolved when dogs lived as wild animals that hunted for their food and had to survive in the wild. These instincts have been evolved somewhat by selective breeding by dog breeders who value some traits, but not others, and select animal matings to optimize their valued traits.
