What should the mechanical advantage be for optimal throwing distance?

nader - I don't quite understand 'optimal throwing'. If you are asking how to obtain the maximum distance from a mechanical throwing setup I would offer two thoughts. You would want the maximum velocity of the ball to be achieved at the moment of release (end of travel of the throwing arm). The second issue is the trajectory angle. If you are projecting the object over a horizontal range (the launcher and target are at the same elevation) the optimal launch angle is 45 degrees for maximum travel. See the Wiki link below to explain some of the details.
