Heat retention

I am working on a science project theat involves the heat retention of different types of coffee mugs....is that in any way Thermodynamics??? if so which law? Please help? any websites to do research on heat retention? Thank you

Your project is based on thermodynamics and more specifically the "heat transfer" out of different types of coffee mugs.
Different types of coffee mugs will transfer heat slower or faster. You should do some research on the different types of heat transfer - convection, conduction, and radiation. Here's a good place to start:

I'm not sure what your control should be. Can you tell me more about your experiment?

My experiment is coming along ..I am testing the heat retention of different types of coffee cups..styrofoam,paper,plastic,ceramic,stainless. Poured hot coffee in each mug ..testing temp every 10 minutes until they reach room temp. (testing to find the cup with best heat retention) I am wanting to research on this subject. what is the science of heat retention? I will look into Thermodynamics
