Seeds not growing

Hi!
First time science fair project fr 1st grade daughter. We decided we'd do an experiment where we would test the effect of sunlight on germination of seeds. Set up soil, seeds and water. Only variable being Sunlight. One is in the basement and the other on the window sill.
Been 4 days, and not a single seed's sprouted.

The weather isn't helping either, despite it being 50's the first two days and now it's snowed and in the 30's. The science fair is tomorrow and I know she really wants to go and present, and has been worried about her seeds every morning.

I need help changing this for her now.
I am thinking something along the lines of

1. Different freezing times for two different liquids
2. Yogurt cultures - time it takes for yogurt to set in ice cold milk or warm mil (any two temps basically)

Anything else simple and that can be done in just one evening. Feeling a little rushed and disappointed now

Thanks!

Bummer about the seeds.

A couple ideas along the lines of the items you were thinking:

1) Supercooling Water and Snap Freezing : https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... p033.shtml

2) The Art & Science of Making Yummy Yogurt* : https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... M&from=TSW

There is a 3rd one related to freezing and liquid temperature however at Diffiuclty level 7 - 8 it will probably be too difficult for your 1st grade daughter to complete. But you can modify it to fit her grade level.

3) Chemistry of Ice-Cream Making: Lowering the Freezing Point of Water : https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... p023.shtml

Good luck tomorrow!
