Hi yungsimba,
In an experiment, you change the value of the independent variable to see how it affects the dependent variable. So if you want to see how sleep affects appetite, sleep would be your independent variable and appetite would be your dependent variable. If instead you wanted to see how your appetite at bedtime affects how well you sleep, appetite would be the independent variable and sleep would be the dependent variable. For the independent variable, you need to have a few different values to test. For example if sleep is the independent variable, you could sleep for 6, 7, and 8 hours and see how it affects appetite. For the dependent variable, you need a way to measure your result. If sleep is the dependent variable, you could instead measure how many hours you sleep if you go to bed at different "hungriness" levels.
Good luck!
