Hi,

Welcome to Science Buddies! This is an extremely challenging project. There is so much generic information available on this topic, that it’s difficult to find specific information on how make a dialysis machine. However, as with any science fair project, it’s important to start with background reading so you understand your subject.

Here’s a good explanation of how kidneys work and what mechanism you would need to provide for a successful hemodialysis instrument:

Here’s a website that shows you the basic mechanism for a dialysis machine:

Here is more information on the topic that includes a few scientific references:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dialysis

Here’s a You Tube demonstration of dialysis.

Here’s an experiment suitable for a science fair project on osmosis and dialysis:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dialysis_tubing

Here's a dialysis tubing supplier. Do you have a small peristaltic pump available?

I hope this helps you get started. Are you going to construct a dialysis instrument, or do an experiment on dialysis and osmosis?
