I was just wondering if students are allowed to use PAHs in their science fair experiments, or does it go against the rules? Thank you very much!

Hi,
Are students allowed to use PAHs in their science fair projects? To clarify, I understand you to mean Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons.. If this is what you mean, the answer is a little unclear, as rules may vary by your local fair. The question should be directed to the Scientific Review Committee of the Science Fair you intend to enter. For general information see the Science Buddies Project Guide and the ISEF rules and guidelines:

The risks involved in using PAHs may depend on the specific chemicals involved. Some are highly carcinogenic where others are relatively nontoxic. See:

I hope this helps. Good luck on your project.
Best regards,
