Hi BabyJ,

Welcome to Science Buddies! You are at the right place for free advice on your science project as this is our primary mission. To help get you started, please check out the following projects on pulse rate: If you read through the background information and check out the references, you will find answers to most of your questions. Please note that our website does end in .org.

And, here’s a project on Gatorade:

One important precaution before proceeding with this project. As a science fair judge, I have seen many experiments on pulse rate and I’ve noticed that I rarely see good data on a project like this. The problem is that there are many variables that affect pulse rate, and your friends that have promised to help you with your project will often fail to participate at the last minute. This is an excellent project idea, but it will be very challenging to get really good data.

Also, since you will be working with humans, you will need to get a signed consent form from each participant. And, ask your teacher if you need approval from your local scientific review committee:

For your project, you will need to design an experiment to answer your project question. After reading through the information, what will your project question be?

I think that this should help you get started. Do let us know if you have any questions.
