Needs help on starting a project

I can't seem to begin many things well for the life of me.
Anyhow, I am in Science Research, this being my first year, and I am overwhelmed with questions and most importantly, do not know where to start.
I would like to look into the field of life science and biology, except without employing testing on animals.

See, all of the previous ideas I had for a project were shot down due to the complexity of the project and nonsuch.
If anyone has a topic or a ready made one I can look at for examples, that would be nice.
I haven't gotten a mentor yet. I'm hoping to find one who can give me a research study to do that they did not have time to start.
If anyone has a biology related question to ask, feel free to share.
Thank you very much.

Hi,

I see that you joined Science Buddies a few weeks ago. Welcome! For your science project, you are on the right track because you have a general idea of what area you are interested in. However, you will need to match your resources in terms of time and laboratory equipment to your project. That's probably the reason that your previous ideas were not approved. If you have not already done so, try the Topic Selection Wizard and identify a few projects that you are interested in.

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... deas.shtml

What were some of the other ideas you had? Are you interested in any specific topics? What science fair projects have you done in the past?

The best way to find a question that hasn't been answered is to read the scientific literature on your topic and find out everything that has been done before. Once you start doing this, you will find many unanswered questions. I am certain that you will be able to find an unanswered question for your project. So take your tentative list of project ideas, and search for background information on each topic. The bibliography at the end of the Science Buddies projects will help you get started. Hopefully this process will allow you to narrow your topic so you can pick the one question for your project. If you want to post your progress and let me know what you are thinking about doing, I can make specific suggestions to help expedite this process. You need to choose something you are really interested in.

To help feeling overwhelmed, just focus on identifying your project question for now. You can allot a certain amount of time every day (15-30 minutes) to looking for a project idea and don't worry about the rest of the project. You should be able to find your question within a few days. Once you have selected science fair topic that is doable, everything else will fall into place.

Good luck!
