During sepration of milk whey, often fouling is observed. How to overcome such problem.?

Welcome to Science Buddies!

Can you give us a little more information about your problem? Are you following a procedure for a project or experiment that is going wrong? Or is your question the problem that you will try to solve with your science project?

Hi,

It sounds like you are doing a project on filtration. A study on membrane fouling would definitely be a worthwhile and important topic for investigation. Whey is a high protein, high salt sample that is challenging to filter and waste products from whey processing pose a potential environmental problem.

Here is a commercial website that offers a review of the problems involved in whey filtration.

http://www.geafiltration.com/applicatio ... ations.asp

Here is a research paper that describes experimental protocols for investigating methods of reducing fouling in membranes. The sample evaluated was water, but you could apply the basic method to the whey sample.

You can get other ideas for an experiment by searching for research papers on “membrane fouling.” Please let us know more about your project if you need more suggestions.

ya am doing project on membrane efficency and also finding flux rate of the membrane. so i want some formula to calculate the flux in stirred cell membrane.
