"Variables" are things that "vary" in an experiment. They can be things you vary on purpose, such as the solvents used for the cosmetics, or the temperature at which you choose to mix them. Or they can be things that vary, but that you may not be able to control, such as the purity of the ingredients you choose to mix, or the humidity in the air in the space you choose to do your experiment.
An example of an "independent" variable would be a base ingredient you choose, such as beeswax or shea butter. It does not depend on anything else.
The temperature you choose to mix these ingredients at would be a "dependent" variable. That is, it depends on the ingredient you choose. For instance, beeswax may melt at a different temperature than shea butter, and therefor affect the mixing process.
A constant variable would be something like the humidity in the room where you do your mixing. It would likely be constant for all the experiments you do over a period of time, but could actually affect the results of your experiment if they changed. For instance, some ingredients may absorb a lot of moisture from the environment if they are mixed in a high humidity, and change your experimental results. I do not mean to infer that is important in this experiment, but it is just an example of a constant variable.
I hope this helps.
Have fun!
