Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Dear Science Buddies,

Please help! My experimental design is due Thursday and I don't know what to do and my teacher won't help! I don't have any ideas for an experiment that would work with my project, and my teacher is really putting on the pressure! I've done most of my research, but without my experimental design, I'll start falling behind! Please help! My hypothesis and experimental question are down there.

Hypothesis: The distance of a baseball will change according to the speed of the ball and force of the bat at the time the ball and the bat intersect.

Experimental Question: Is there a relation between how far a ball is hit and the initial force of the bat hitting the ball?

If you search the Science Buddies project ideas at https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... deas.shtml, for "baseball distance" you can find some ideas about how to do your experiment.

Measuring the force of the bat on the ball might require assembling some sort of force measuring device, It might be easier to measure the speed of the bat than to measure the force.
