Improvised Water Purifier (please answer :))

This is for our Research subject.
It has been proven that Malunggay (Moringa seeds) can purify water. http://biotechforlife.com.ph/allaboutma ... odness.htm
And since it's been proven, we need to improve this study by making a device/machine/invention for water purification convenience. Our group decided to make an improvised water purifier using pure malunggay as the means of purifying but we're worried that it would fail so our teacher suggest that we should also make use of other materials that could purify and not only pure malunggay. But we don't have an adult sponsor yet. We just have a limited amount of money that we can spend on this project. What possible cheap materials could we use?

Hi,

This is a really great project idea and I encourage you to continue. Here is a project idea from the Science Buddies website that includes the experimental protocol for an inexpensive water filter made of gravel, sand, and activated carbon:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... p030.shtml

You could make a water filter from the Malunggay seeds and compare results with another water filter, or use the Malunggay seed filter in addition to the gravel/sand/carbon filter. The important point for a science fair project is to make sure that you have something to measure. Besides water clarity, you could also do other tests such as pH, nitrate, and bacterial counts. You can find more information on this topic by searching for “water quality testing.”

Please let me know if you need more help in trying to decide how to proceed on this project.
