Hello, I know this isn’t the query you usually get, but I am a year 10 student who is currently doing a major science project and wanted to know if there was someone who might be able to help me out. firstly my experiment that I’m doing is to see if watering seedlings with food colouring will change or alter the colour of the leaves, I would be very grateful if you could tell if it might work or not and any helpful hints that might help me or point me in the direction of someone who could.
Thank You

Hi Sarbit,

Welcome to Science Buddies! This forum provides on-line assistance for doing your science fair project so we can certainly answer any questions that you may have. Since you are just getting started, you should review the basic steps for doing a science fair project.

Have you done any background reading on your project from scientific sources? What is the purpose for doing your project?

Here are some additional ideas for you to consider:

Here are some project ideas from the Science Buddies website on plants. We don’t have a project that is similar to yours, but you might want to read through some of these projects to get an idea of how to proceed:

One of the most important aspects of a science project is being able to measure your results. Here are the standard methods for measuring plant growth:

Since Science Buddies is a web-based resource, we don’t have local experts that you can talk to in person. However, if you do need a local mentor, you can use the ideas in the following article to find someone who can help you.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions about the details of your science project.
