Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

I am helping my sons step son to build a phophorous atom model. Can anyone help with suggestions.

The fastest way to build a model of an atom is to use small styrofoam balls suspended around a metal/plastic hoop. Use different hoops to represent different electron levels.

I've seen some cool ones involving objects suspended in various types of fluids.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that you can also use food coloring in the above to create a layering effect. Personally, however, I haven't done a project like it, even when I was in middle school
