Hi, I am willing to do this project for a research project in our school but I was wondering if adding detergent has any effect to the biogas that'll be produced? if I were to add detergent, should I be using powdered or liquid? Also how much should I add? We won't be given a very long time so I wouldn't be able to experiment as much as I can but I hope my questions get answered

Hello najejebsako,
I'm assuming that you are working on the project described here:

My suggestion is to use a liquid detergent. This should mix better with the biomass materials than a dry powder. The procedure calls for 40 g of biomass in each of the tests. So a reasonable amount of detergent to add might be 1% of the biomass weight or about 0.4 g. You might also try tests with larger and smaller amounts of detergent (say 0.2 g and 0.8 g). This would help to gauge the detergent effect.
I hope this helps. Please ask again if you have more questions.
