Antimicrobial Resistance

We are planning to attempt an experiment on this subject, but are looking for some guidance. Our plan is to grow e.coli in petri dishes, then add antibiotic disks to separate dishes. We will first observe the difference in effectiveness of each drug. Our second observation is to see if the e coli develop any visible resistance over time. Does this sound like a reasonable plan for a grade 11 student?

Hi,

Observing the differences in antibiotic resistance is a good project idea.
Sciencebuddies has an experiment about modifying the genetic DNA of the bacterium Escherichia coli to make it resistant to the antibiotic streptomycin. You can look over it for some information that may be useful for your project.
