Is this an engineering project? also what im I testing. Please get back to me. I like the project idea, but don't know the basis of it and how to do it.

Hi Rosy,

I don't think this is an engineering project - those project usually involve designing something new rather than testing a procedure. See here for more information on the engineering design process: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... cess-guide

In the Forensic Science: Building Your Own Tool for Identifying DNA project you are simulating how gel electrophoresis is used to test DNA but using food coloring instead of DNA samples which are difficult to prepare. The procedure described in the project guide is a starting point to do the gel electrophoresis but you'll need to decide what variables you would like to test and customize the experiment to do this. The Make It Your Own section has some great ideas to get you started: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... eityourown
