Anesthetists test scale that measures risk of harm from invasive research placebos

A scale developed to measure the potential harm caused by invasive placebos in local anesthesia research has been successfully tested by independent consultant anesthetists. The Serious Harm and Morbidity scale aims to encourage clinicians to consider less invasive placebos when carrying out research. More than half of the research papers the authors looked at subjected control group patients, including children, to risks of moderate or major harm and ill health. Read more
