Added benefit of fixed combination aliskiren/amlodipine is not proven

The fixed combination of aliskiren and amlodipine was approved in April 2011 for the treatment of people with hypertension in whom aliskiren or amlodipine alone has an insufficient effect. However, it cannot be inferred from the manufacturer dossier that the new drug has an added benefit compared with the present standard therapy.
