A great place to start is the "Topic Selection Wizard" on http://www.sciencebuddies.com The wizard will let you narrow down your topic, and identify areas that are interesting to you. Once you've selected a topic, the next step is to define the project a bit more- start by asking a question that you might be able to answer with a few experiments. With a project and associated question/hypothesis in hand, you're now prepared to test your assumptions.

Only you can decide what would make an interesting project to you, although there are many suggestions on the site and in the discussion boards (try searching here too!). But once you've decided on a project, the boards are a great place to ask specific questions.
