Confusion about independent and dependent variables HELP!

Post by rallen »

Hello :) , I'm doing an experiment on how the vitamin C contents compares in organic and conventional fruit and vegetable juices. A titration was performed in order to tell how much vitamin C each juice contains. Since I'm not really changing anything, what would the independent and dependent variables be? Also, what are the experimental and control groups? :? Please respond quickly, my project is due in 4 days!  Thank you so much!

Hi!
Although you seem to be simply measuring vitamin c content, perhaps you could put your independent variable as vitamin c content and the dependent variable as different types of orange juice. It's easier to remember variables with the following formula-
the effect of (independent) on (dependent)
The experimental groups might be organic, or other juices while the control group would be the "normal" juice. Hope this helps, good luck!

Hi Rallen,

From what you write, it sounds like you are changing the types of juices you are using in the experiment and then checking how the vitamin C level changes. To help clear the confusion about independent versus dependent variables in your mind check out the page on variables here at the Science Buddies website at

The information there should keep you going strong.
