Science Fair Research paper

We need help! My granddaughter, who is in the 8th grade, just started her research paper for her project, "DO Warmer Seas Make Stronger Hurricanes?". This is supposed to be fun, but it has turned into a nightmare. She has in her research paper the following topics: What is a hurricane, How does a hurrican form, The stages of a hurricane, and talks about the S. Simpson Scale to catagorize the hurricane. What other information does she need to put in her research?

Also, this paper counts as a grade in her language class. Is it written like any other research paper? She is confused and I don't know how to help her.

Her first draft of the paper is due Friday, the 14th.

Hi,

All of that sounds like great information to have in a research paper about hurricanes! You might also consider putting in information about global warming and how that could potentially create warmer seas.

Science writing is just like normal writing except, I would argue, a little less 'flowery'. That doesn't mean boring, but it does mean that personal anecdotes and similar extraneous information should probably be left out. It's also very important to make the logical connections between the topics clear and to present information in an order that makes sense.
