Sulphorous acid

Post by robinbentele »

I was doing an experiment to test for sulphuric acid and discovered that sulphuric acid was not present in the solution i was testing. I am sure that the acid I should be testing for is Sulphorous acid, but I have been unable to find out what chemicals that can be found in a school lab to us when testing for sulphites. Could any one please assist me?

Thank you.

Hi Robin!

Please check out: http://www.du.edu/~jcalvert/phys/sulphur.htm, skipping to the paragraph that starts "To test for sulphide ion". I found it using answers.com.

Note in looking for other sites, you may need to run searches twice once with "sulfur" and once with "sulphur".

In looking for other sites, please consult my 7/7 posting in Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert" Forum Index -> Physical Science and Math -> Search Sites listing eight search sites (three research and four general) and google.
Cheers!
