Project Question: I'm doing a science project on how 3 different genres of music affect typing accuracy and typing speed. I'm having trouble coming up with a nice graph and data table. I'd also like to interview an expert on behavioral studies like the one I'm conducting, and it would be of help if you can answer some more questions as well.

Science Fair Project Help- Music and Typing

Post by malena-e »

Hey!
I'm in the process of conducting my experiment. I have set up three trials. In my first one, I have students give me their"baseline" typing accuracy and wpm. then I have 3 other trials that deal with music while they type. I have a control group and I have all of my data tables set up. The whole report is due next week and I'm conducting my experiment tomorrow. Although, I haven't found an expert to interview yet, and those are one of my requirements. If anyone is experienced in the field of study I''m researching ( memory, learning, parts of the brain used while multitasking), can i get some depth in what my experiment is doing and how it relates to those keywords?
please and thank you

HI malena-e:

I'm not sure if you did your experiment yesterday, as you planned.

I did a quick search and came up with a relevant link:

Study: Multitasking hinders learning
Distraction-free studying is more efficient and effective, new brain research suggests

I hope this helps. If not, then I suggest you add another post to this forum.

ok thank you so much
and i actually was able to do some of my experiment yesterday. im finishing it up monday, but i still need an expert to answer some questions.

What stimulates the brain to think and learn?

Do sound waves have anything to do with abilitiy to comprehend new skills?

Do you think that the volume of music I use would affect the students typing accuracy and words per minute?

How do the nervous system and muscular system relate to motor skills?

Do you think that if I had tested students from different ages but with the same experience of muscle memory, I would have gotten different results?

For an expert to interview, do you live near a university? You might try someone in the psychology department.

If you go to the university's website, you should be able to find a section for the psych department. It should list contact information for the professors.

this lists the faculty and their interests, plus a link to contact info:
http://psychology.berkeley.edu/faculty/ ... alpha.html

You probably won't find someone whose interests exactly match your own, but maybe someone studying the same general area?
