Wood

Post by Ulmer »

I am doing a project on the coefficient of restitution in different species of wood. I need to find some information on how the chemical makeup of wood differs in different types. For example, I’d like to know how are they different in their xylem and cambium, phloem and vascular bundles and such. Would someone be able to help me find resources to give me this information asap, please??? Thank you so much!!!!

Hi,

Here are some resources for you:

You may want to look into getting access to this book:

I have spent a lot ot time looking into this, but I am not very satisfied with this answer. I have not found good web pages showing comparative crosssections of woods, though they may exist. I strongly suggest that you visit a nearby university that has a forestry department. Such a university department is likely to possess a collection of wood cross sections, possibly prepared for microscopic examination, which you might be able to access. Also, even a short conversation with a professor of forestry would likely be far more informative than anything I have been able to list above. And an examination of a forestry department library might yield a treasure trove of literature on exactly your area of interest.

This could be a fascinating subject to explore, but either I don’t know the search terms to unlock the area, or this subject area is better accessed through paper libraries.

Best of luck on this project. Wish I could be more useful to you than I fear I have been.

Hi,

I found this really excellent site on wood anatomy, with microscope images of various woods.
Check it out!!!
