significance of Simple Harmonic Motion project

Post by imastudent615 »

Hi,
we're doing the Simple Harmonic Motion in a Spring-Mass System science fair project, and we need help figuring out how to relate this project to real life.
Any insight you could give would be greatly appreciated!

One example that immediately comes to mind is bungee jumping

The most important equation you'll need to know for a mass-spring system is Hooke's Law which is that
F = kx
where the force of the spring (F) exerted will be equal to the spring constant (k, a constant depending on the characteristics of the spring) x displacement (change in distance when it is stretched from its equilibrium position)

Hope that helps
