Hi,

You seem to be getting into a really interesting area of science, but it is unfortunately one where you are going to need adult support (parents or teachers) if you want to buy the kinds of supplies you are asking about. This Science Buddies Project Idea examines what I understand you want to do, and may give you some useful ideas:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... g&from=TSW

I suspect that you do not need to buy bacteria - either the school can help you from their own supplies or you can isolate them from the environment around you. You need a good laboratory in which to do these experiments, and your school is the one to help you arrange access, and your science teacher is your best advisor - if she/he can’t help you directly then they should be able to refer you to the right resource.

Bacteria strains can be purchased from the American Type Culture Collection:

http://www.atcc.org/CulturesandProducts ... fault.aspx

But only by organizations who have proven they have the laboratory facilities and knowledge to safely use them. Your teacher will have to help you if you need to do this. Most antibiotics are also under tight control - you may need a doctor to write you a prescription so you can buy what you need from a local pharmacy.

In your shoes I would review the projects in the microbiology section of the Science Buddies Project Selection Guide for ideas in your area of interest that don’t require buying cultures and other supplies from commercial vendors:

This is a very interesting area of science. Don’t let the seemingly daunting proceedural and safety hurdles discourage you. If you persist, I’d be willing to bet you will find it worth the effort in the end.

Best Regards,

Barrett Tomlinson
